The Patriot Weathered tartan, made up as a traditional kilt and cut to your own measurements.
Made for you, not off a shelf
Nothing here is pre-made. You send us your waist, hip and length measurements and the kilt is cut and hand-stitched to those figures by our kilt makers. The straps then give a further two inches of adjustment either way, so it still fits if your size shifts.

- Pleating: Your choice — pleated to the sett, or pleated to the stripe
- Front apron: Triple fringed
- Straps and buckles: 100% leather straps, rust-free buckles
- Lining: Cotton, for comfort and to help the kilt hang properly
- Waist: Adjustable two inches above and below your measurement
- Belt loops: Fitted as standard
Looking after it
Hand wash in cold water and hang to dry. Keep it away from harsh chemicals and the colours will stay true.

Everything is made after you order, so there is a making time. Standard delivery is 20 to 25 days. If you need it sooner, choose Rush Order Delivery in the options above and we will have it with you in 5 to 10 days.

Size & Fit
Every kilt is cut to your own measurements. All you need is a tape measure and a couple of minutes.

Waist Required
Measure around your body at navel level, about 2 inches above your hip bone and higher than where your jeans sit. Keep the tape tight.
A kilt sits higher than trousers. Measuring too low is the most common mistake.

Fell Optional
The distance from your waist line (1) down to your hip line (3), roughly halfway to your seat.
Leave it blank if you're unsure; it isn't needed for most orders.

Hip / seat Optional
Stand with your feet together and measure around the widest part of your hips and seat. Empty your pockets first.
Worth adding if your hips are much fuller than your waist.

Kilt length Required
Kneel upright on the floor. Put the end of the tape on the floor and measure straight up to your belly button.
This puts the hem on the middle of your knee, the traditional length. Kilts shouldn't be worn too long.
Custom length: shorter or longer?
Start from your kneeling measurement (step 4), then adjust:

No one to help you measure?
Measure a skirt or kilt you already own that fits well. Lay it flat and fasten it:
- Waist: measure straight across the top of the waistband and double it.
- Hip: measure straight across 7–8 inches below the waistband and double it.
- Length: measure from the top of the waistband down to the hem.
Good to know
- Between two sizes? Choose the larger one, or use custom measurements. The kilt fastens with buckled straps, so it adjusts by about an inch.
- Measure over thin clothing with empty pockets, standing tall and relaxed. A helper makes it easier, especially for the length.
- Outfits and accessories (shirts, hose, shoes, hats) use the standard sizes shown in their own menus.

Tartan Skirt is operated by Kilt NYC LLC. Almost everything we sell is made to order in your size or your measurements, so the delivery time includes the time it takes us to make your piece and the time it takes to ship it.
Delivery
We ship worldwide from the United States. Every order is dispatched from the US to customers in every country.

Orders are processed Monday to Friday. If part of your order is out of stock, we’ll contact you within 24 hours with an updated delivery date, and you can cancel for a full refund if it no longer suits you.

Carriers and tracking
We ship with FedEx International Priority or DHL Express. Every order is tracked, and we email your tracking number as soon as your order ships.
Customs, duties and taxes
Orders within the United States have no customs charges. For orders to the United Kingdom and Europe, we cover customs duties and import VAT, so there is nothing extra to pay on delivery. For other countries, local import duties or taxes may apply and are set by your country’s customs office. Sales tax, where it applies, is shown at checkout.
Returns and exchanges
We want you to love what you ordered. If something isn’t right, email support@kiltnyc.com and we’ll sort out a replacement, exchange or refund.
Returning an item
- Let us know within 30 days of delivery to start a return or exchange.
- Items must be unused, unworn and in their original condition, with all original packaging, labels and accessories.
- Returns are free: for every approved return we provide a prepaid return label.
- Once your return arrives and is checked, we process your refund or exchange, usually within 2 business days, to your original payment method. Original shipping charges are not refunded.
Made-to-measure and personalised pieces
Pieces made to your own measurements, or customised at your request, are cut just for you, so they can’t be returned for a change of mind or because measurements were entered incorrectly. If we made a mistake, or the item is faulty, we will always put it right. Not sure about a measurement? Message us before you order and we’ll check it with you.
Damaged or faulty items
If your order arrives damaged, email us within 48 hours of delivery with your order number and photos of the item and the packaging. For a manufacturing fault, contact us as soon as you notice it. Once confirmed, we’ll replace, repair or refund it at no cost to you.

Frequently asked questions
How do I choose my size?
Dresses, skirts and jackets: choose your usual US size, shown with its letter size, e.g. US 8 (M), and check it against the size chart. Kilts are cut to your measurements: your waist at the belly button and your kilt length, with hip and fell optional.
What measurements do you need?
Kilts need your waist (at the belly button) and kilt length; hip and fell are optional. Dresses need none if you choose a standard size; with Made to measure we ask for bust, waist, hip and height. The size guide shows how to take each one.
How long will my order take?
Every piece is made to order. Standard delivery takes 20–25 days from the day you order to the day it arrives, and the estimated delivery date is shown above the Add to cart button.
Can I add notes or special instructions?
Yes. Use the additional information box in the options. We will contact you if anything needs clarifying.
How do I find my family tartan?
Search your surname in the Tartan Finder. Many surnames are linked to a clan tartan, and we match septs too.
Is the picture exactly what I will get?
Photos of a chosen tartan show the real cloth on a model. Where we do not have one, the preview is a computer-generated image drawn from the tartan's thread count, so the colours are close but can vary slightly between screens and weaving batches.
Can I return my order?
Standard sizes can be returned unworn. Made-to-measure pieces are cut for you, so they cannot be returned unless faulty. See our shipping and returns page for full details.
