Tartan skirts and kilts, made for you

Tartan is woven in a repeating pattern of coloured stripes called a sett. Each clan, family and district has its own sett, recorded by its thread count, and many come in several colourways: modern (bright), ancient (softer, lighter), weathered (faded greens and browns) and dress (with white, for evening). We keep 2,107 of them, and every piece in the shop can be made in the one you choose.

Kilted skirts, hostess skirts and kilts

A kilted skirt has the wrap-over apron, pleats and buckles of a kilt in a lighter, everyday skirt. A hostess skirt is the long, full skirt worn to ceilidhs, Burns suppers and weddings. A women's kilt is pleated all round to the sett and made from your measurements.

Wearing your family tartan

Search your surname in the Tartan Finder. If your name is a sept of a clan, we will show you the clan's tartans too. Finish the look with a tartan sash pinned with a brooch, or match a partner's kilt in the same tartan.

Questions we are asked most

How do I find my family tartan?

Search your surname in the Tartan Finder. We list 2,107 clan, family, district and national tartans and match surnames to their clans and septs, so you can find a tartan linked to your family even if your name is not a clan name.

What is the difference between a kilt and a kilted skirt?

A kilt is pleated all round the back to the sett of the tartan and fastens with leather straps and buckles. A kilted skirt has the same wrap-over apron and pleats but is lighter and simpler, and is made to wear every day.

Can I order a skirt in my own measurements?

Yes. Choose a US size from 0 to 24, or choose made to measure and give us your waist, hip and finished length.

How long does it take?

Everything is made to order. Standard delivery takes 20–25 days from order to your door, and the estimated delivery date is shown on every product.
